printmaking | drawing

Hi! I am aurelia, an artist from London and this is an interpretive etching of me, age 8, swinging around the playground.

I use art as a way of organising my strange thoughts. As a child growing up I organised the furniture in my bedroom to do this. Humans are all born with innate creativity and I believe it’s tapping back into this that promotes the freedom of expression and vulnerability we are born with. As a latecomer to the art world I use my experiences of having worked in mental health to explore themes of feminism, neurodiversity, childhood, community, society and the natural world.

My work reimagines playful perceptions with intense use of colour and organic line, depicting a rich inner world. Drawing gives me a space to slow down from the worked up world and process line curiously. The unplanned result can be surprising and expressive.

Printmaking for me is the opposite: carefully scripted and manipulated, although the result can be surprisingly different too- even with planning! The various printmaking techniques I combine including aquatint, photo etching and chine-collé.

A few more facts:

  • I’m guided by the lovely people at Artichoke studio in Brixton, where I print. Shouts Colin & Staffan

  • I’m taught through a lot of mistakes and observation

  • I’m AuDHD

  • I love playing with colour & proportions

When I’m not making art, I’m mostly doing yoga, reading, touching my eyebrows, listening to the same song on repeat and dancing/ swinging around poles.

I use the traditional Rochat printing press for all original art and etchings.

I also offer selected art available as gicleé prints, printed digitally on high quality archival paper.

In addition to my personal projects, I am also available for commissions and collaborations, small or large.
